24. 2[ Appointment of Executive Officer.-
For every cantonment there shall be an Executive Officer appointed by the Central Government or by such person as the Central Government may authorise in this behalf: Provided that the Board may empower any of its members or officers to exercise or perform in the absence of the Executive Officer from the cantonment all or any of such powers or duties of an Executive Officer under this Act as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, specify in this behalf. Explanation.-- In this proviso, the word" officers" shall mean any of the supervisory staff of the Board as may be specified by the Board.
Not less than one- half of the cost of the salary of the Executive Officer shall be paid by the Central Government and the balance from the cantonment fund.
The Executive Officer shall be the Secretary of the Board and of every Committee of the Board and may participate in every meeting of the Board and of every Committee of the board but, shall not be a member of the Board or of any such Committee.
